Events: APA Convention - Program Chair Welcome

Welcome to the 2014 Convention Website!

Our reviewers have selected quality posters, symposia, and/or discussions for the 2014 APA convention in Washington DC August 7-10! This year our focus is on research addressing the serious social and psychological issues impacting men and boys, including but not limited to the following:

  • Violence (e.g., men as perpetrators and/or men as victims)
  • Race and ethnicity (e.g., issues affecting ethnic and minority men)
  • Help-seeking
  • Health and health-related behavior (e.g., health-related disparities in men and boys)
  • Mental health and psychopathology
  • Men in education (e.g. issues impacting young boys)
  • Men in the correctional systems
  • Men in the military
  • Gay men
  • Counseling and psychotherapy with men
  • Human trafficking
  • Sexism
  • Racism
  • Women’s relationships with men

The majority of the presentations selected for APA 2014 address many of these issues, as well as novel factors previously unexplored in the psychology of men. In short, this is shaping up to be an impressive program.

Collaborative Programming:
APA 2014 will also feature collaborative programming between two or more divisions. The goal is to reduce overlap in programming and to increase the quality and visibility of programs. Although the process was extremely competitive, our division members worked hard to get four collaborative programs accepted!

Please click the link below to download a copy of the APA’s collaborative programs. Highlighted programs were sponsored by D51 members.

The CEP Office and the CEC maintain responsibility for the delivery of the programs.

Hospitality Suite Programming
We have secured a hospitality suite at the Renaissance Washington D.C. Hotel (999 9th St NW), and a number of members have suggested that they are interested in presentin programming If you are interested in submitting a proposal, please contact me directly. I will find one or two people to blindly review each program based on a first-come first-served basis.

Social Hour and Dinner

It is division tradition to go out to dinner Saturday night after the social hour. We will meet in the private dining room at Tony Cheng's, which is walking distance from the convention. Details on price and menu are available here.

I will make sure that any announcements and updates are displayed here and on the website in the coming months leading to the convention. If you have any question, please feel free to contact me.

Thanks to everyone who has helped so far, and let’s have a great convention!
